Regional position on biotechnologies linked to the agricultural sector

The ministers of agriculture of the member countries of the Southern Agricultural Council (CAS), within the framework of international negotiations -especially in the areas of the Convention on Biological Diversity-, have declared the need to carry out an approach based on science for the treatment of biotechnologies linked to the agricultural sector, with the aim of avoiding regulations that may unjustifiably or arbitrarily affect international trade in agri-food products and cause damage to producing and exporting countries.

In this sense, they highlighted the need to maintain a clear differentiation of the regulations and the regulatory approach of products derived from NBT with respect to GMO’s and their derivatives.
