Science and innovation as the greatest allies in tackling climate change
On May 12, 2023, the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM) summit was held in Washington DC, USA. The meeting brought together policy makers, industry leaders, producers, civil society representatives, scientists and researchers from around the world.
AIM for Climate is an initiative created jointly by the governments of the United States and the United Arab Emirates, which will host COP 28 at the end of the year, aimed at increasing investment in climate-smart agriculture and innovation for agrifood systems.
The meeting revealed data on the consistent increase in investment in innovation and new technologies to address both climate change and global hunger through the urgent adaptation of agrifood production. In this regard, several major international players agreed on the urgency of promoting an alignment that includes countries, international organizations, the private sector and civil society to address the climate crisis through science and technology and with a pragmatic attitude.
